Pastor’s Prayer Partners

I. OVERVIEW

The Pastor’s Prayer Partners program is designed to give interceding prayer support for the pastor and the ministries of the church. Materials for this ministry are in English and Spanish. Those involved in this endeavor commit to pray for the:
  1. Pastor
  2. Pastoral staff
  3. Church family
  4. Church Ministries
II. HOW DOES THIS MINISTRY FUNCTION?
This ministry functions under the primary oversight of the pastor. In addition, a Prayer Partners Coordinator should be appointed to assist the pastor. The coordinator’s responsibilities could include the preparation of a monthly newsletter, periodic prayer breakfasts and the annual Prayer Partners Retreat. Also, a Prayer Leader is appointed for each week to direct the prayer time in the pastor’s office.
Prayer Partners commit to the following schedule of prayer:
  1. Consistent personal prayer
  2. One Sunday each month, when scheduled, partners gather in the pastor’s office for prayer
  3. One week of intense prayer for the church each month (this is the week prior to their scheduled Sunday prayer time)
  4. One day a month when each prayer partner prays especially for the pastor (this is the same day each month throughout the year).
During the Sunday prayer time, Prayer Partners gather in the pastor’s office at a time set by the pastor when he shares about the direction of ministry for the day and to learn of any special concerns needing prayer.
  1. They lay hands on him and ask for God’s anointing. The Prayer Partners continue to intercede throughout the worship service. A Prayer Partner’s agenda is prepared each Sunday to assist them in knowing the thrust of the message and needs for the day. Prayer Partners who are praying during the service may receive a free tape of the service from the tape ministry desk.
III. WHO MAY BE INVOLVED IN THIS MINISTRY?
  1. The Pastor’s Prayer Partners ministry is open to any man in the church. The pastor will invite men to participate who have expressed interest in the prayer ministry.

    D. WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS OF THIS MINISTRY?
    Prayer Partners make the following one-year commitments:
    1. Prayer commitments as mentioned above.
    2. Attend a maximum of four prayer breakfast meetings.
    3. Attend the annual Prayer Partners Retreat.

IV. PRELIMINARY STEPS

Discuss the Pastor’s Prayer Partners program in a Men’s Ministries meeting and a special called meeting of all interested men of the church.

Prior to the initial meeting, the pastor, in consultation with the Men’s Ministries president, should identify and get a commitment from a prayer coordinator. This should be a person with a heart for prayer ministry and who is willing to serve for a full year. His title will be Prayer Partners Coordinator.

When the men come together for the meeting, the pastor, Men’s Ministries president, and prayer partners coordinator should each share their personal vision/mission for the prayer ministry with the group.

V. IMPLEMENTATION

As you study the Manual, you will be led through a systematic approach to this great and critical ministry. After recognizing the need for Pastor’s Prayer Partners, you will be guided through the “Pastor’s Prayer Partners Mission,” the “Steps for Developing Pastor’s Prayer Partners,” “Pastor’s Prayer Partner Covenant,” guidance on “Praying For Your Pastor, Your Church, Lost People, Your Community, and Your Personal Ministry.” Finally, a good look at the “Seven Temptations For Prayer Partners To Avoid,” and the “Seven Rewards For Prayer Partners.”
